The time of year that either makes you want to puke and stay home all day, or makes you want to spoil your S.O., is finally behind us. In elementary school, Valentine's Day was one of the best days of the year because you couldn't wait to receive cards and candy from your classmates, also an extra bonus if the cutie who was your crush wrote something special like a heart on your Valentine. Growing up, I've noticed that Valentine's Day, like every other holiday, has become so commercialized and focused on material things, that we sometimes forget the real reasons why we are celebrating in the first place. If you are single, Valentine's Day may just seem like another day out of the year, or you may be sick of seeing all the couples who you can't imagine are actually real human beings because they seem way too happy and in love. If either of those scenarios are the case, you should look at Valentine's Day as an excuse to spend extra time with family or friends and show them why they are super important in your life! Have a wine night with the girls watching rom coms, or spend time cooking dinner with your mom for the family. I'm always looking for excuses to do both of those. If you are in a relationship, Valentine's Day is a great time to remind your significant other how much you love them. Personally, I love going out and getting dolled up, but I think Valentine's is a great time to relax and do something more thoughtful. If you are in the right relationship, Valentine's shouldn't be the only day your boyfriend or girlfriend pampers you, but it is a reminder of the love that you have for each other. This year, I was one of the "annoying" people in a happy relationship who was looking forward to this day because I was so curious to see what my boyfriend had planned...
This Valentine's Day was filled with so many surprises! My sweet boyfriend surprised me by cooking my favorite dinner, filet mignon. He did such a great job, I felt like I was eating at a fancy restaurant, except it was even better because it was just us.

After dinner we made chocolate covered strawberries! They were the perfect treat after a heavy meal.
I love to bake, so I decided to make my boyfriend this awesome Conversation Heart Piñata Cake that I found at Hungry Happenings! My version wasn't as perfect, but I loved how it turned out. It totally surprised my boyfriend when he cut into it.
